Primavera

The Italian period drama *Primavera* tells the story of the meeting of two souls in search of themselves: the young and talented violinist Cecilia, an orphan searching for her own identity, and the composer Antonio Vivaldi, a man swept away by his creativity and Cecilia’s talent.

Venice, 18th century. Twenty-year-old Cecilia (Tecla Insolia) is a talented violinist who has spent most of her life at the Ospedale della Pietà orphanage.

Art has opened her eyes, but not the doors of the orphanage; it is the only place where she can perform, behind a grille for the wealthy patrons.

Only marriage seems to offer a way out. Cecilia’s life changes when a new violin teacher gives her a glimpse of a different existence. His name is Antonio Vivaldi (Michele Riondino).

Under his guidance, she finds the courage to break free and pursue her own musical passion.

*Primavera* is based on the novel by Tiziano Scarpa and marks the feature film debut of opera director Damiano Michieletto.

The film was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and won three David di Donatello awards (Best Music, Best Sound and Best Costume Design).
