Wageningen World City
The continuous exhibition Wageningen World City is on display in the Signature Room at Visum Mundi. This 16-minute short film makes for the perfect starting point for a historical walk through the city.
Wageningen World City takes you on a journey through Wageningen’s rich history and unique significance. On the banks of the Rhine, a city grew to become a symbol of freedom and knowledge.
The film explores the ancient landscapes, from the moraines and floodplains to the hay meadows where agriculture and nature come together. We see how Wageningen developed from a fortified town into an industrial city and ultimately into an internationally recognised city of knowledge, with the university at the heart of global science and innovation.
Residents of Wageningen share their personal connections to the city’s historic sites. Wageningen World City is an ode to a city where the past, nature, culture and science converge — and where the flame of freedom burns eternally.
The film was made by Melchert Meijer Zu Schlochtern – the Wageningen-based documentary filmmaker, known for films such as Hooiland, Grutto! and Green Musketeer.
